Trinity English Lutheran Church Breaks Ground on New Expansion

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

The public groundbreaking and press conference was held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Among those speaking were Mayor Tom Henry, senior pastor Frederick Hasecke, campaign chairman Mark Hagerman, and architect and project manager Vic Martin.

"Throughout its history, Trinity has sought to create a sacred church home where everyone can worship the Lord and learn of God’s ways, be one in Christ and share the Good News of Jesus Christ with our neighbors," stated Pastor Fred Hasecke, senior pastor at Trinity. "Now we at Trinity English have a new opportunity to open our doors to everyone and further fulfill our mission 'to welcome all to come and grow in the love and grace of Jesus Christ.'"

The proposed site improvements reflect feedback gathered from the congregation during a two-year Mission Discernment Process, followed by eight months of Trinity’s House Committee interviewing committees, staff, and other groups that use the building. The new gathering space will include a newly designed Washington Boulevard entrance; meeting spaces, restrooms and an enlarged elevator that are accessible to all; an outdoor activity area; a covered entryway, and technology improvements, including use of geothermal and solar energy and more efficient mechanical systems.

The "Seeds of Faith" Capital Campaign, which began in February of 2008, has $3.8 million of the $5 million dollar project pledged to date, including a $300,000 grant from The Lutheran Foundation. Trinity's Church Council unanimously voted to proceed with the property improvements in May, with actual construction beginning in late summer. The project hopes to be completed and dedicated in the fall of 2009.

Emley Design Group facilitated the mission discernment process. Dennis and Donna Emley are members of the campaign steering committee and co-directors of the communications committee for the campaign.

"Our campaign continues to help Trinity English build commitment and community in Christ," continued Pastor Hasecke. "We also share a purpose with our downtown neighbors who seek to revitalize Fort Wayne's downtown, build a stronger community and create a future with hope."

The public was also invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, July 20, 2008, following the 10:00 a.m. worship service.
