An Afternoon of Royal Proportions
Sunday, May 17, 2009
Early Childhood Alliance holds an annual event to raise funds to support programs for young children and families and to help enable low income families with young children to participate in quality early care and education in their child care centers.
This year, an afternoon of royal proportions was enjoyed during the "Royal Tea” held on May 15 and May 16, 2009, where approximately 35 women each day "held court" all afternoon at a lovely local "castle." The "queen for the day" — our hostess — was Donna Packnett.
Jack Lawson, local tea historian, enlightening the gathered guests with his presentation and display of his exceptional Tea and Coffee Services. The Prime Minister David Lloyd George’s Tea and Coffee Service was presented to him by King George V for meritorious service to England during World War I. The tea urn is the rarest of urns, made by the famous silversmith Paul Storr. It is believed it took more than a year to make in the years 1798 and 99 for King George III.
In addition to Emley Design Group, other sponsors for the two-day royal event included Parkview, Indiana Michigan Power and Poinsatte-Altman Foundation. Different teas were served with each of the three-course luncheon, with food catered by Catablu.
